1. If you know Jesus Christ you are FREE!
The biggest lie you can believe is that you are still a slave to sin. Romans 6:11 (NLT) ”
    (11) So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus.” Just like the slaves were emancipated by Abraham Lincoln, so “YOU” were emancipated by Christ and freed from the law of sin…
  2. You CAN stop sinning.
A slave who is set free by the law can still act like a slave and live like a slave. He can even continue serving his old master. The fact that the is legally free is the ONLY fact that matters. He must believe the truth and walk away from the plantation
John 8:32 “And you shall KNOW the truth and the truth SHALL make you free!” (KJV)
  3. Become accountable to someone who is free (from this addiction) on a weekly basis.
James 5:16, Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and wonderful results. (New Living Translation)
This take humility. James 4:6 (NLT)
    (6) But he gives us even more grace to stand against such evil desires. As the Scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but favors the humble.” Favour is another word for help. God gives favour/help/grace to the humble. There is no greater weapon in your fight against sin than the nuclear weapon of humility. Satan hates humility so much. He was banished from heaven because of his pride and our pride will keep us bound by addiction and not admitting we need help.
  4. If you are using the Internet to view porn get a program called get the program called xwatch .
This program is free and it monitors where you go on the internet and sends an accountability report to the person(s) of your choosing every 2 or 4 weeks depending on the time frame you choose for reporting. This is not a proxy server that slows down your connection it is simply a tracking system that tracks questionable sites as well as if you turn the x-watch program off.
  5. Get started on this course http://www.settingcaptivesfree.com/home/courses.php
(Choose whatever course pertains to your addiction)
  6. Remember this verse Philippians 4:8  (NLT)
“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
God wants you to have a holy imagination. Imagine HOLY things. Your HOLY marriage. Meditate on the HOLY bible. Emphasize what you CAN think about, instead of worrying about what you are not allowed to think about.
  7. Get rid of the poison entry point.
If the TV causes you to fail, get rid of it. If the credit card is causing your failure, cut it up. Try to find the trigger that sets off the sinful/destructive behaviour. There is usually a reason for your behaviour. It would be good to find out why you do what you do wrong. If it is an unresolved issue from your past, dealing with this may help you greatly in your journey to freedom. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you why you continue in the destructive cycle. He is THE wonderful counselor. Isaiah 9:6  For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Mark 9:43-48. (NLT) (43) “If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one hand than to go into the unquenchable fires of hell with two hands. 45 If your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one foot than to be thrown into hell with two feet. (47) And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out. It’s better to enter the Kingdom of God with only one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell,  (48) ‘where the maggots never die and the fire never goes out.”
  8. Pray with others concerning your addiction regularly.
